Wind, Rain and plenty of carp !!

Tuesday went out as it had begun with lots of rain and just the odd spell of clearer weather and with darkness came heavy rain and a rapidly rising wind. Tim did not fish at all, preferring a good nights sleep, and the hours of darkness produces no more than the odd fish, however when…

What a good day !!!

Terrible weather was the form for today but along with the wind and rain came another 28 fish including a new pb for Calamity Tim in the form of a 35lb 4oz common. A well earned fish that was banked within minutes of a 30lb mirror on one of his other rods. Whilst weighing the…

Spawning !!!

This morning we have seen our first spawned out carp landed as well as males depositing milt on the mat. It seems that the warm weather has actually brought spawning on and at least some of the carp have completed the act with others prepared to start as soon as water temperatures creep back up….

And the carp keep coming.

Latest catch results show 65 carp and one sturgeon and thats without knowledge of any carp caught by our dutch guests today. The fish have been evenly spread throughout the lake and are topped by a cracking new pb for Cumbrian Dave at 32lb and yet another 30lb + common for Dave (Crocodile Dundee) bringing…

A mighty storm.

After another glorious day with temperatures in the 20’s and anglers sporting the beginning of tans we should have known that things would not last. A muggy evening led to a mighty electrical storm accompanied by heavy rain in the early hours of the morning. As the rain eased the fish began feeding and from…

The first 24 hrs.

The week has began with glorious sunshine and the warmest weather so far this year. With little wind the lake is like a mirror under a cloudless blue sky. Indications are that the carp are actually getting ready for spawning as several male fish have been leaving a trail of milt on the mat. It…

End of week 3.

After a beginning of torrential rain and night frosts the week has ended with glorious sunshine and genuine springlike temperatures. The total catch has included a new catfish record for the fishery at 54.9lb’s and 66 carp up to 38lb. Although the biggies are still reluctant to feed with any confidence we have seen 2…

The sun shines and all is well with the world !!

Its been a glorious day and several of the lads are sporting red faces and in Tims case a rather sore back. After the previous few weeks it is a wonderful surprise when a day actually feels like spring. The swallows are busy swooping low over the lake, the cuckoo’s are calling mournfully all around…

Gordons Pussy.

Gordon O’connor has just had our best cat to date at 54.9lb’s. It really did give Gordon an epic battle lasting a good 20 mins and all credit to the old fellah (sorry Gordon) for managing the cat so well. Bait was one of our maple fudge boilies and it is the first time this…

An overall improvement.

Wednesday saw more rain gradually easing and with the sun breaking through in the late afternoon and giving a lovely warm evening. Overnight the clear sky’s saw temperatures plummet and Lee even had ice on his unhooking mat. These constant changes in temperature need to stabilise before the main body of carp start feeding in…
