When the big girls came out to play.

A week that started with almost ideal fishing conditions gradually reverted to very warm sunny weather as the week progressed and catches slipped away towards the latter part of the session.

The catch of 41 carp seems moderately good at first glance but when you look more closely at the individual weights it can be seen that the better fish certainly are starting to get their heads down on the bait. In fairness the carp, although crashing out all over at night, seemed to be more actively feeding in the deeper water which meant that Darren in Zippies saw the most action. That said, when Jimmy took the boat up into the shallows it was teeming with fish, possible because it was free of anglers and the carp could happily feed without being spooked by lines in the water. Each week, since the break in the hot weather took place, has been affected to some degree by rapidly changing conditions which always can upset the carps behaviour. This week we once again had everything from warm sultry days to breezy and cloudy and onto strong sunshine and high temperatures. I feel that the lads did well in the circumstances and certainly managed to bank some impressive fish. On the downside, we are seeing a fair few small carp showing up which will be sorted during our winter netting. In fact it is evident from both Poppies and the main lake catches that an extremely successful spawning a couple of years ago is now beginning to show through in catches. Nothing we can do until winter when it will be sorted.

Individual catches for the week were as follows …
