Calm and quiet.

The last day or so has been warm and sunny in the main with a little rain today. Although the lake is looking very ‘fishy’ we are still not getting any feeding pattern establish itself for the carp. The odd fish comes at the most unexpected times and when it seems all is right for them to feed they are noticeable by their absence. We are still seeing some nice fish banked with lots of high 20’s and a sprinkling of 30’s and although the tally for the week should not be far short of 60 carp its fair to say that fishing has been far from easy. The normally productive deeper water has been all but devoid of carp for the past few days whereas the shallows have been most productive. Certainly there are plenty of carp holding up under the overhanging tree’s but they are not showing any inclination to come hard on the feed. It may be all to do with spawning with plenty of fish yet to enter into fun although around 70% of the carp banked appear to have spawned already. I am fairly confident that when they do settle down to a serious feed there will be large numbers caught and some very good fish to boot.
On the bait front our house boilies are still producing nicely as are pineapple popups (mainly used in snowman rigs) and we have even caught a few on peperrami. I spent an hour with Sophie yesterday evening floatfishing peperrami near the lilies in the point channel and whilst we were there we saw lots of very good carp with tails almost leaving the water as they fed on the pellet we have sprinkled around earlier. I hooked a large mirror that I lost after a few minutes due to hook pull and then landed a small mirror before they decided enough is enough and moved on. I feel that a more mobile approach may be the way at the moment with plenty of area’s being lightly baited up and tried at various times in the day. The bed of pellet approach with just a light sprinkling of boilies has been succesful to date with the method feeder also pulling a few fish in. A single pineapple pop up is a bit of an enigma as it can be devastating one minute (60 carp on it in our first week) and the next day it is a complete waste of time. I would be interested in your views as to why this should be ??
I have put a few of the Cumbrian lads pictures from the last day or two below. They have worked hard for their fish and have all set new personal bests during their stay so far.

Alright all,
Hows tricks, hope all are well, The great pineapple pop up, this is just another bomb shell in the world of carp fishing, I think because of the bright colour and strong flavor levels they are drawn to the area of the hook bait and they pick them up out of curiosity just to see what that are, ( carp have only got there mouths and eyes to see what things are, they have no hands) it’s the same on my local water with fruit tella pink popped up 3 inch and fished over pellet, it shouldn’t produce because it’s so un-natural but it does and it will still produce in years to come (bring on the big - un’s), all the best keep up the good work you’ve got some cracking fish coming out, and i hope to see you in october say hello to the big un’s or bonjour as it should be and take it easy,
KEEP YOUR OPTIONS OPEN AND YOU WILL GET YOUR REWARD
LEE (YIM-YAM)
P.S. HAS MY 38lb been beaten yet?
Hi Lee, think your assumptions on the pineapple pop up are much the same as my own, however……….why is it that it can work so well one week and be a total waste of time the next ?? Is it that when the carp are seriously on the feed they are pre occupied on bottom baits/food whereas when they are just ‘browsing’ the pop up arouses curiosity ???
Hope you can make it in October Lee, by then we should have had a few 40+ carp out so you will have a target to beat !!!!
Jim the answer to your pineapple pop up conundrum is blindingly obvious ,When they produced well they were on the end of mark and myselfs rods ,now they are not ! LOL.
Seriously though still some nice fish out in not under perfect circumstances so the lads are doing well ,anyway much more satisfaction if you have to work for them a bit !.
Well Adrian, I think that perhaps you were lucky to have such a skilled brother to show you how to fish with pop ups !!!!lol
Your final point though is very valid Adrian, to be honest I feel that fishing has never been what you would term ‘easy’ at all this spring what with the constantly changing weather and then spawning, however the anglers have all done very well in the circumstances. Your week saw a lot of good fish banked but you could never have called it ‘easy’ fishing.
Yes your right Jim from what I can remeber despite having 69 fish between us mark went something like 48hrs without a sniff and i had about 30hrs (I still blame him for making me move to the dam !) but then on the other side I had 10 fish in one afternoon incuding 3 almost at the same time .
But the main thing is at least there is still the quality if not the quantity you would like to see gracing the bank.
Well Adrian, lets see whether you can beat your catch next year………………..easy or not !!! lol
Well if I dont it will not be through lack of trying Jim but what will be will be !!!
Hi,
Any news on your latest arrivals?!..
Jacqui
Hi Jacqui,
new arrivals are in fine form and catching well. Graham and Adam have both had new personal bests and seem very happy with things….already wanting to book for next year so things must be going well…lol.
Hi..
Competition between them certainly started well then!! Funny I haven’t been told about Adam’s catch, so must be better than Graham’s?!
Think Graham wanted to book for next year before he even arrived!!!..
Graham is certainly top dog at the moment Jacqui but Adam is not far behind. I will be putting pictures up this evening so you will be able to see their beaming smiles !!!
Excellent look forward to seeing them! With competition already strong, I hope the boys play nicely for the rest of the week!!!
